Pomarance (Pisa):

Pomarance   is a  small country  in the center  of  a region  of great  historical and artistic interest ( Pisa ,  Siena ,  Volterra ,  Florence ,  Livorno , Massa  Marittima ) ,  Upper  Maremma  Tuscany called  " The  Metalliferous Hills " , not  known for  its  name  but rich  in  archaeological treasures,  natural and artistic .
Pomarance  already  Ripomarance  Castle ,  is  known  in the tenth  century  cC , its  core retains  its  morphology with  the  ancient  castle walls ,  doors,  medieval and Renaissance palaces  and  the  ancient  Romanesque church of  San  Giovanni  Battista .
Pomarance  is  also  the country  of  Tuscany , which includes  the largest number of  villages in  its  municipality .  One of  these is  San  Dalmatia, which  preserves  in  its  territory two important  ruins  as  the church  of  San  Giovanni  and  the  Rock  Sillana .
The  first  of the tenth century ,  is  a rare  example  of Romanesque -Norman  and  other churches  in the  area  stands  as  a  lonely place  and  mute  appeal .
The  second ,  the  Rock  Sillana ,  is  isolated  and imposing ,  dominating the  valley  of the Cecina river    and that  of  Pavone .
It dates  to the eleventh  century .

Volterra:  
Volterra  is now  a  characteristic medieval  town ,  where you can still  enjoy the  atmosphere of an ancient  village , thanks  to its  isolation , which  has limited  industrial and commercial development ,  preventing  the  construction  mess  that often  accompanies  economic development.
Volterra  modern  is  almost entirely  enclosed  within  the  circle of  thirteenth-century walls , which are  the  culmination  of  a  process of  urban expansion  that  began  around  the year one thousand  finds its  conclusion  in  early  1300  with the  construction  of  defensive systems  in the vicinity  of  main gates  of the city .  Indeed, the  city  reduced  form  in  the late - antique  Military  ( VII century )  and  whose  perimeter is  marked  today  by  the Plan  of Castle  Gate  Arch ,  via Roma ,  via  Buonparenti ,  Via dei  Sarti  and  via  di Sotto,  spread around the  ancient  church  of  Santa  Maria  ( now  cathedral )  and the  contiguous  pratus episcopatus ,  today  the Piazza dei  Priori ,  while  outside  the  castrum  ocastellum ,  rise , after  a thousand year  the village  of Santa  Maria ,  now  Via  Ricciarelli , perpendicular  the walls  of the castle  and  the  town  of Abbot ,  now  Via  dei Sarti ,  parallel  to  the same  walls .

San Gimignano:  

San
  Gimignano  rises  with  its towers ,  on  a  hill  ( 334m high )  dominating the  Val  d' Elsa . Seat of a  small  Etruscan  village  of the  Hellenistic period ( II - III  century  BC. )  its history began  around  the tenth  century, taking its  name from the Holy  Bishop of  Modena,  St. Gimignano, who  saved the  village  from the  barbarian  hordes .  Developed greatly during the  Middle Ages thanks to  the Via Cassia  through it.  In fact, San  Gimignano,  the flourishing  of works  of  art  to  adorn the  churches  and  convents .  In 1199 he  became a  free municipality  and fought  against the  Bishops of  Volterra  and the surrounding municipalities ,  suffered internal strife divided  into  two  factions in the wake  of  Ardinghelli ( Guelphs)  and the  Salvucci  family (Ghibellines ) .  The  May 8, 1300  Dante Alighieri ambaciatore  of  the Guelph League  in Tuscany .  The  terrible plague  of 1348  and the  San Gimignano 's population was  thrown  into a  severe  crisis .  The town  had therefore  submit to  Florence.  Degradation and  subsequent  abandonment of  the centuries  it came out only  when  we began to  rediscover  the  beauty  of the city ,  its cultural  identity  and the original  farm .
